The Real Estate and Related Services Chamber consists of a single sub-sector and 8 standard industrial classification codes.


Real Estate services sub-sector

Companies and individuals in this sub-sector are involved in a​ number of fields of real estate services including, but not limited to:

Residential, commercial/ industrial property sales;

Interior design: turning an interior space into an effective setting for the range of human activities;

Construction businesses that include or require real estate services;

Specialists: evaluators of real estate;

Facilitators of purchases and sales of property;

Professional valuation services and auctioneering;​​​

Developers adding to or replacing buildings;

Leasing of property and property management: managing a property for its owner(s), which includes facilities Management;

Real estate marketing: managing​ the sales side of the property business;

Real estate investing: managing the investment of real estate and Interior design - conceptual development, liaising with the stakeholders of a project and the management and execution of the design;

Any business performing a task regulated in terms of the Estate Agency Affairs Act 112 of 1976.


Real Estate and Related Activities

In addition, almost all construction businesses effectively have a connection to real estate. Purchasing real estate requires a significant investment and each parcel of land has unique characteristics that has evolved the real estate industry into several distinct fields. Specialists are often called on to evaluate real estate and facilitate transactions.

 

Some kinds of real estate businesses include:

Professional Valuation Services, Auctioneers who sell goods on behalf of others and charges a fee to facilitate a transaction between the two parties, Developers core function is to Improve land for use by adding or replacing buildings;

Leasing of Real Estate, Property Management: Managing a property for its owner(s), which includes facilities Management, Real Estate Marketing: Managing the sales side of the property business;

Real estate investing: Managing the investment of real estate and Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, liaising with the stakeholders of a project and the management and execution of the design Depending on the specialisation of your business, should a business be performing a task regulated in terms of the Estate Agency Affairs Act 112 of 1976 (‘the Act”), with the mandate to regulate and control certain activities of estate agents in the public interest.

The EAAB regulates the estate agency profession through ensuring that all persons carrying out the activities of an estate agent as a service to the public are registered with the EAAB. A Fidelity Fund Certificate, which is to be renewed each year is issued as evidence of such registration and confirmation that such person is legally entitled to carry out the activities of an estate agent. Auctioneers who sell property also need to adhere to this act. The same would apply for Property Valuers as they need to be registered in line with the Property Valuers Profession Act [No. 47 of 2000]. The subsector is also governed by other pieces of legislation such as Consumer protection act, FICA and various others that practitioners need to adhere to.
