Chamber Overview and Scope - Management and Business Services



Management and Business Services Chamber consist of two sub-sectors and 13 standard industrial classification codes.


Business Services

Companies represented under this sub-sector offer a variety of services, including but not limited to marketing and advertising, consulting, legal services, logistics and shipping, human resources, staffing, leasing, security, outsourcing, and facility management.

There are 10 Standard Industrial Classification codes represented within business services sub-sector which are:


Import and Export Of Various Metals

Companies represented under this sub-sector perform duties such as imports and exports of steel plates, hot-rolled steel sheets, square steel, round steel, wire, cable and ferrosilicon.  Some materials include Copper, Aluminium, brass, stainless steel, computers and metals.


Other Business Activities

Companies represented under this sub-sector perform duties   such as buying, selling, marketing, or investing for the purpose of generating profits or developing economic opportunities.


General Consulting Services

Generic consulting includes providing opinion, advice, counselling as well as deliberating with clients.  Consulting cuts across many industries or disciplines such as the following:’

•    Faculty consulting

•    Franchise consulting

•    Human resource consulting

•    Information consulting

•    Performance consulting

•    Public Relation consulting

 

Business Activities N.E.C

This is any activity that is engaged in for the primary purpose of making a profit. Business activities can include elements such as operations, marketing, production and administration.

Business activities are ongoing and are focused on creating value for shareholders within entities.

 

Other Recreational Activities

Companies represented under this industry perform various activities including actions that facilitate refreshment of one's mind or body. These activities can be communal or private, active or passive, and can be done indoors or outdoors. They include actions such as listening to music, gardening, hunting, swimming and traveling.

 

Other Services Activities

This is any business enterprise with the primary purpose of providing services.  These activities encompass a wide range of professions, including law, medicine, engineering, design, finance, accounting and even performing arts.

 

Quality Management and Related Services

Quality management is aimed at ensuring that an organization or product is consistent and addresses the desired objective.  It can also be considered to have four main components which are related to quality, and these are: quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. Quality management is focused not only on product/service quality, but also the means of achieving it. Quality management therefore uses quality assurance and control of processes as well as products to achieve more consistent quality.  There are many employers who are represented under this industry and what is critical is to highlight is that quality cuts across all industries within various sectors.

NGO Management and Services

This includes the management of any non-profit, voluntary citizens group which is organized on a local, national or international level.  NGO’s are task-oriented and driven by people with a common interest.  They perform a variety of service and humanitarian functions, bring citizen concerns to Governments, advocate and monitor policies and encourage political participation through provision of information. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human rights, environment or health.

Non-Financial Business Management and Management Consulting

Under this industry there are companies that offer business management services to clients.  These also include management consulting services that are offered by consulting companies. Organizations may draw upon services of management consultants for a number of reasons, including gaining external (and presumably objective) advice and access to the consultants' specialized expertise.

Other Service Activities N.E.C

Companies represented under this industry offer a variety of services such as:

  • providing verbatim reporting , recording of live legal proceedings and transcribing subsequent recorded materials, such as:
    • court reporting or stenotype recording services
  • real-time (i.e. simultaneous) closed captioning of live television performances of meetings
  • address bar coding services
  • bar code imprinting services
  • repossession services
  • parking meter coin collection services
  • activities of independent auctioneers
  • administration of loyalty programmes
  • other support activities typically provided to businesses not elsewhere classified

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Within this sub-sector there are two industries which are presented which are generic project management as well as events and conference management excluding the operation of convention centers.  Companies represented under this sub-sector add value within their industries by utilizing their skills and expertise in an effort to assist and deliver outcomes, solutions, service or mitigate risks that provides for a meaningful return on investment to their clients.

Generic Project Management

Companies represented under this industry provide common standards to ensure that projects are conducted in a disciplined, well-managed and consistent manner as well as ensuring that projects are in time and within the stipulated budgets.

Event and Conference Management Excluding the Operation of Convention Centres

Companies represented under this sub-sector perform functions such as identifying target audiences, drafting event concept, planning logistics and coordinating technical activities ahead of launching the actual event.  Event management requires a level of strong organizational, budgeting and creative skills.

 

The majority of the Services Seta stakeholder organisation are represented by the Management and Business Services Chamber which makes it the largest of the 6 Chambers within the Seta.
