More than 90% of the Services SETA's 83,000 members are under the category of small and micro enterprises (SMEs). Due to the diversity of industries in this sector, a dedicated SME department, under the management of Peta Broomberg, was set up in September 2001.

The main purpose of the department is to address and look after the needs and interests of small and micro enterprises in our sector.

To implement the objectives of the National Skills Development Strategy, the SME department has been charged with tasks which include:

  • Research the SME demographics of our sector
  • Determine fundamental training needs for our SMEs
  • Develop marketing strategies for SMEs
  • Identify local and international benchmarks
  • Open channels between the formal and informal sector
