Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Programme:

Is aimed at promoting the skills development profession as a whole.  It supports skills development facilitation professionals in their efforts to respond to the challenges on implementing the National Skills Development Strategy II in the rapidly changing environment that now exists in the services sector.  Enable Services SETA designated skills development facilitation professionals to demonstrate to their employers, clients and colleagues their own professional competence
The CPD programme should not be seen as imposing an additional burden on skills development facilitation professionals, but as a way of recording activities in a more structured and formal manner.  These are activities which skills development facilitation professionals would be undertaking to remain up to date with the current social and economic transformation initiatives and how they impact on skills development in the Services Sector.  The points system of the CPD programme will also assist in making these activities more visible to employers, clients and colleagues.
The CPD process consists of maintaining a log of a range of activities that contribute to a participant’s professional development, including both formal training such as attending courses, and ‘on-the-job’ experience, such as presenting a report to a committee. CPD Units are allocated for these and each participant is expected to achieve a target of 20 Units per year.

  1. Participants must register for CPD at the commencement of the programme in March 2006.
  2. They will complete the initial self assessment form and e-mail it to the Project Manager.
  3. During the year, participants will be invited to participate in a number of workshops as a means of earning substantial CPD points.
  4. SDFs will complete an activity sheet (templates supplied) each time a qualifying activity is completed.  At the end of the year, participants should submit a completed Activity Log to the project manager.
  5. Once the programme has been completed, and provided the participating skills development facilitation professionals have fulfilled the requirements for achieving 20 CPD points, they will receive certification that they have undertaken the required level of CPD for the current year.

The project manager may request the activity sheet at any time, and the sdf should keep evidence of activities undertaken for submission to the project manager if required.

The CPD process

At the start of the programme, the selected participants will complete a brief development plan outlining each significant need,   an activity to meet the need, and an expected completion date.  In addition, each participating SDF will complete a self evaluation form before commencement.
