
SSETA INDUSTRY COUNCIL FOR TRADES & OCCUPATIONS
For the purpose of organising the CEP for the respective industries falling within the scope of the SSETA, the department responsible for the SSICTO within SSETA facilitates a process of nomination with the respective CEPS in order to formalise an Advisory Committee for each CEP.
This Industry Advisory Committee will be represented by 8 to 10 members of the CEP collective. The Committee will have a chairperson and a vice-chairperson. The Committee is responsible for the following:
The Committee will be awarded 2 seats on the Chamber board, without voting rights, to ensure that there is an interface between the activities of the Industry Advisory Committee (representing the CEP collective) and the activities of the Chamber Board.
The respective Industry Advisory Committees are can form subcommittees in line with the unique needs of the Industry they represent, e.g. a provider subcommittee, sub-committees focussing on specific areas of specialisation within the industry.
The Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson of each CEP will be awarded a seat on the SSETA Industry COUNCIL for Trades & Occupations. Thus, the Council is made up of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of each Advisory Committee. For purposes of efficiency the President and Vice-President of the SSICTO Council will be awarded seats on the SSETA Council structure, without voting rights. This SSICTO Council is responsible for the following:
- Inform Policy, and such the council cannot get involved in operational matters of SSICTO or the SSETA.
- Fulfil the role of Ombudsman for the services sector
- Lobbying with government, government departments (e.g. DoE, DTI & DoL) and business collectives.
- Marketing Occupations falling within the services sector and attracting new talent by facilitating career guidance using information on the OFO and the NOPF (e.g. HE and FET Open Days).
- Drive research related to the Occupational Learning System, specifically for industries falling within the services sector;
- Determine demand from the labour market vs the supply from the training institutions
- Determine how the currently registered NQF products feed into the occupations falling within the scope of the SSETA.
- Conduct Baseline and tracking research related to information submitted through WSPs and ATRs reflecting occupations registered on the OFO.
- Professional Bodies and their capacity.
